How it works

Instant Scratch-Its are physical scratch cards sold at The Lott retail outlets across Victoria. You buy a card over the counter, scratch off the opaque panels with a coin or fingernail, and discover immediately whether you have won a prize. No draw takes place; the outcome is printed under the latex coating when the card is manufactured.

The Lott offers dozens of different Scratch-Its games at any one time, each with its own theme, price point and prize structure. Prizes range from a few dollars to hundreds of thousands. The back of each card lists the odds and the number of top prizes still in circulation, though that information quickly becomes stale as cards are sold and claimed.

Odds and divisions

Because Instant Scratch-Its encompasses many individual games—each with different odds—we cannot quote a single division-1 figure that applies across the board. The odds printed on the back of your card are the only reliable source for that particular game. In general, scratch-card odds are set when the batch is printed: if a game has one top prize among 500,000 tickets, your chance of buying that winning card is one in 500,000, assuming it has not already been claimed. Those odds do not improve or worsen with each purchase, unlike a raffle where the pool shrinks.

If you win

Prizes up to a few hundred dollars can usually be claimed at the retail outlet where you bought the card, subject to the retailer's cash float. Larger wins require you to visit a state lottery office or to post the signed card with proof of identity. The licensed operator—not aussidraws.com—is responsible for validating and paying all claims. We are an independent editorial site and play no role in prize fulfilment. Keep your ticket safe; a damaged or unsigned card may be refused.
